The Colour of Fear

An exploration of place as it relates to mind and memory, layers of experience and feelings, this 8-panel painting was created as a result of experiences walking the canals of inner city Birmingham and in and around ‘Spaghetti’ Junction.

The Colour of Fear explores my interest in mixed media combining oils, domestic painting materials, glazes, charcoal, wood filler and print.

I aimed to introduce an element of paradox by beginning with two adjoining A1 pieces, then subsequent pieces were added to a total of 8 sheets, painted on or over, rotated and re-arranged over several months. The pieces also can be read separately.
